Effective-dated rates

Give a rise a start date and InstructorHUB applies it from that day forward without touching a single dollar of pay you have already run.

Updated July 18, 2026

Pay rates change, and when they do you almost never want to rewrite the past. A rise that starts next month should apply from next month, not reach back and inflate periods you have already paid. InstructorHUB handles this with an effective-from date on a rate, so a change lands exactly when it should.

Giving a rate a start date

When you add a rate you can set an effective-from date. Leave it blank and the rate applies immediately. Set it to a future date and the rate waits, InstructorHUB shows it as pending from that date, and it does not touch pay until the day arrives. When that day comes, classes taught from then on price against the new rate automatically, while everything before it keeps the rate that was in force at the time.

This is the clean way to record a pay rise the moment you agree it, without having to remember to change anything later. Set the new figure, give it its start date, and walk away.

Changing a rate that is already in force

Editing an existing rate creates a new binding that takes effect immediately rather than quietly altering history. So a period you have already run keeps the rate it was run against, and the change applies going forward. Pay you have already paid stays exactly as it was, which is what keeps your records trustworthy and your reports consistent.

Retiring a rate without losing it

When a rate is no longer used, deactivate it rather than delete it. Deactivating retires the rate from future pay but keeps it on the record, so the periods it once priced still make sense when you look back at them. Nothing you have paid ever loses the rate that produced it, which is the whole point of dating rates rather than overwriting them. To add a rate in the first place, see Create a rate rule.
